Jessica Towns-Camara
Vitality Pilates Certified Instructor, 450 hour Certification
Jessica grew up on Tiger Mountain just south of Issaquah and has always had a passion for hiking that the natural beauty the Issaquah Alps offers. She is excited to be back, living in Issaquah after many years away. She is committed to teaching Pilates and sharing the joy of a well rounded body!
Jessica graduated from the Evergreen State College in 2003 with a BA with a focus in literature, environment and Native American studies (She is herself Aleut-Sugpiak of the Pilot Point Tribe of Alaska). She then moved to Crested Butte, Colorado where she explored her love of hiking, flora, yoga, and music. In 2005 she embarked on a life changing trip around the world; stopping in England, France, Morocco, Guinea, India, and Thailand. On this journey she fell in love with West African dance and music as well as her now husband, talented percussionist and dancer, Manimou Camara.
African dance is a high impact, very beautiful and vigorous art form, that sometimes left Jessica feeling less than graceful. She noticed, while in Guinea-West Africa, the dancers she admired all moved from incredibly solid cores. She also noted that the intense labor-based lifestyle helped the dancers develop and maintain their lean and solid muscles. She began to look for a body discipline that would help her to develop and maintain a balanced body and a solid center; She found Pilates. Jessica began to practice mat and props based Pilates; buying books, DVD's and even audio classes. Once she took her forst reformer class at Vitality Pilates she was hooked! She was so inspired by the amazing changes in her body and her African dance that she enrolled in the Vitality Pilates Teacher Training Program. She graduated in September of 2010 fully certified in all apparatus, including: mat, props, reformer, cadillac, barrel, foam roller, ped-o-pull and chair.
